Man Saved After Jumping from Cowan’s Ford Dam Bridge

Emergency Services personnel from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and East Lincoln Fire Department saved a man who jumped from the Cowan’s Ford Dam bridge on May 26, 2020.

At Approximately 10:54 a.m. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dive team and drone team were dispatched to a call where a person had jumped off of the NC HWY 73 bridge at Cowan’s Ford Dam. Emergency Services Personnel already on the scene requested the teams respond to assist in locating the individual. While en route, officers were advised rescue personnel had located the subject in the water.

The Dive Team arrived on the scene at 11:30 a.m. and staged at Cowan Ford Overlook. Upon arrival, East Lincoln Fire Department water team members and Dive Team member (Deputy Kevin Cornett) were able to recover the patient and bring him back to shore. The victim, a 63-year-old man, was conscious when he was turned over to Lincoln County EMS for additional treatment and being transported to the hospital. Dive team operations terminated at approximately 11:40 a.m.
