Job hunting is not the easiest thing to do, but it’s a necessary evil. Of course there are a rules, but the most important one is to maximize the relationships that you already have.
According to LinkedIn, 70% of professionals get hired at companies where they have a personal connection. This right here is a prime example of the power of networking. The more you’re able to connect with someone, the more they’ll be interested in what you have to say.
For example, if you were recommended by the interviewee’s best friend, you’ve already got one leg up in the interview. If you see some pens with dogs printed on them, and you LOVE dogs—this is a given for you! Connections are taking over your interview, for the good though!
Even though there may be personal connections before in the interview, 51% of us feel uncomfortable about asking our connections for a referral, and 40% of us avoid this step altogether. There’s nothing wrong with reaching out to someone that you worked with on LinkedIn and asking them for some career advice. Just make sure you have genuinely connected with them and did a solid job before going this route.
Just do it, it can only help you land that job you want!
