Deputies Arrest Loomis Street Man During Break-in in Progress

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Loomis Street, Lincolnton, NC man as he attempted to break into homes and a vehicle on Salem Church Road.

Deputies P.E. Finger and M.S. Johnson were dispatched to a break-in in progress in the 2500 block of Salem Church Road shortly after midnight on October 8, 2019. As Deputy Johnson pulled into the driveway he noticed a white male on the left side of the house behind a bush. The suspect followed commands to walk to the patrol car where he was checked for weapons.

Residents told officers they heard someone trying to open their back door and front door and that’s when they called 911. A check of the property with deputies revealed damage to an outbuilding door and the back door of the home.

Deputies also checked a neighbor’s house when a screen door had been pulled open and someone attempted to get into a minivan parked in the driveway.

During a search of the suspect, officers located mail that had been taken from three different mailboxes in the 2400 to 2600 block of Salem Church Road

Clarence Steven Howell, Jr., 41, of Loomis Street, Lincolnton, NC was charged with three counts of possession of stolen property, two misdemeanor counts of attempted breaking and entering, one misdemeanor count of breaking and entering, and attempting to break and enter a motor vehicle. Howell was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
