Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Deputies Quickly Apprehend Female Bank Robber

Lincolnton, NC –

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies quickly apprehend a woman who robbed the People’s Bank at 142 S. NC 16 Business Highway.

A white female wearing dark glasses, shorts and a dark-colored shirt entered the bank around 9:30 this morning. She demanded money and presented a note that she had a gun but no gun was seen.

She fled the bank on foot.

Charlie District deputies quickly converged on the scene and located the woman near a vehicle behind a nearby Food Lion grocery store. She was taken into custody without incident at 10:00 a.m. The money taken in the robbery, just under $2,600, was recovered.

Sheriff’s detectives charged Diane Michelle Weeden, 56, of Ballard Road, Denver, NC with one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. She was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.

The FBI assisted in the investigation.
